I Survived San Diego Comic-Con! Go Me!

Yep, that's me in the middle - sitting on an author panel at San Diego Comic-Con International last Saturday. It was amazing. It was outrageous fun.

Okay, it was exhausting. But worth it. So very, very worth it.

Guys, I literally had a dream come true. I always wanted to go to a con, and to get to attend the grandaddy con of them all - as a panel speaker! I can't even put that into words. And the room was packed!

We all had a copy of our book to set next to our nameplate, and when I put mine up, several people in the crowd gasped and pointed and said, "That's her!" or "Oh, it's TRAVELER!" Made me feel like a rock star. And after the panel - which went really well - I was getting stopped right and left by people who wanted to know where to buy a copy of my book.

This was big. Really, super big.

Three years ago almost to the day, Holly West from MacMillan publishing called me to tell me they wanted my book. And a second book, as well.

Five months ago, I was lying in a hospital bed, not sure if I was going to ever get my life back. Not sure if I was going to live, at one point.

It's been a rocky road, but here I am, and there I was on Saturday, living a dream.

One of the questions asked by the audience was, "If you could go back in time, what would you say to your younger self?" I couldn't help it. I started choking up. I had a vivid memory of high school me laying on my bed, writing in my journal the lyrics from one of my favorite songs:

Like a bolt out of the blue

Fate steps in and sees you through

When you wish upon a star as dreamers do

All I managed to get out of my constricted throat was, "Believe in yourself."

Just believe. And work at it, hard. It'll all come 'round.
