Last week, I shared some of my all-time favorite movie dance numbers, and this week, I'm sharing some more, from a genre that is in a category all it's own: Bollywood! I will confess that I don't watch Bollywood movies often, but I do love a good dance number. Bollywood is so full of fantastic colors, catchy music and amazing choreography - I just had to share some of the dance numbers that I've happened upon (or had pointed out to me) over the years.
We'll start with this one, because it's my most recent obsession. If this doesn't impress you, there's something wrong with you.
This next one goes back a few years (but from the same production company). Just gorgeous all-around.
This one is just plain fun. If you were wondering what Bollywood disco fever looks like, here it is.
This one is also just for fun - it all started when critics complained that Indian musician Daler Mehndi's music was only popular because his videos featured beautiful women. Mehndi's response was to create a video featuring only copies of himself greenscreened in. It became a bestseller and you can see how much fun he was having doing it.
This one has got to be my all-time favorite Bollywood dance number. The scenery is spectacular, the music is mesmerizing, the choreography is insane - and all on the back of a moving train!
This one gets an honorable mention, because it's not from a Bollywood movie. This is the final scene of "Slumdog Millionaire" - an outstanding Danny Boyle film set in India, and the exuberance of this Bollywood-style dance, after the culmination of the movie (oh, what an ending!) earned it a place in my Bollywood lovin' heart.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to put on something bright and bounce around my house for awhile.
