It's Friday and I'm under a massive deadline for my next book (yay!) so you guys get to be totally weirded out by this collection of strange stuff that will make you ask "What the hell did I just watch?"

A friend shared this with me today, and I just have to pass it along. The dancers are amazing (and the choreography is fantastic), but this dance is so much more than that.
Set to the spoken word piece, "What Are You Afraid Of?" by Jon Jorgenson, this is guaranteed to make you feel good.

Oh yes, I bought them
Saw them on the internet
And just had to have them
Wear them everywhere
Except when with my daughter
She loves me
But even she won't be seen
With a mother in these shoes
And not at work
Because the day job isn't the dream job
But it's still a good job
Where no one wears crazy shoes
But I wear them sometimes
Oh yes, I do
'Cause life is too short
Not to own crazy shoes

I have a confession to make, and I know it's going to get me in trouble.
I'm one of those girls. A girl who doesn't have a gaggle of girlfriends they hang out with. Or even one girlfriend they call everytime there's good news or bad news or even no news but they just have to call anyway.
And that's not to say I don't have female friends, because I do, and more than a few. I've met most of them through work, or they're in the neighborhood. If they invite me over, I almost always go, and I extend an invitation anytime I have something going on at our house. Since the divorce, that doesn't happen much, though. At work, I have lunch with them and I share my home-baked goodies whenever I bring them in.
But I just didn't get whole, "I need my girlfriends around me," thing.

Summertime is nearly here (hey, if you were in Philly this weekend, you would have sworn it was here already)! All this warm weather reminds me that my son has nothing to do this summer.
Our local township has a wonderful summer camp that he's attended since he was five, but he's aged out now. At 13, he's on his own, and I'm on my own looking for a camp that:

It's finally Friday! And for some of us in the good ole USA, that means a three day weekend! My tax return is in and I have a metric BUTTLOAD of writing to do this weekend on the second book (book one is out and doing pretty well so far)! All in all, not a bad way to kick off a weekend.
But before I get rolling, here's a random collection of stuff that made me laugh. Enjoy!

I saw this on Reddit last week - a user found this tied to a deflated balloon in Jefferson, MO. The text reads simply:
I miss you so much
I just want you to
know that I really am
sorry for hurting you. I made
it mom. I made it through high
school. I love you Momma.
I love you so much.
Sincerely, [name obscured]
Tell the people you love how you feel, and do it while they're still alive. Tell them I love you. Tell them I'm sorry. Tell them they made a difference in your life. Save yourself the deep and abiding recriminations of never getting that opportunity again after it's too late.
And above all, remember that while it may be too late to tell them, or show them, it's never too late to make them proud of the person you are. That's on you, and only you have the power to honor their memory, and validate their faith in you.
They're watching. And whoever you are in Jefferson, your mom is very, very proud of you.

Reviews and sales figures and friends
All holding copies of my book
Posting on their pages
Media interviews and podcasts
Book signings and public readings
All part of living the dream
Still needing to catch my breath
But in a good way
Thank you, all of you
It's nuts around here
But it's all good
It's all very, very good

I've been running this blog for six years and it never occurred to me to put stuff like that all in one place, which is really puzzling because when David was first diagnosed, I read stuff like that voraciously anywhere I could find it on the internet (or in a bookstore or magazine).

How's that for a creepy sculpture? Yeesh.
Anyway, it's Friday. There's a layer of snow on the ground (shoveled), I have a ton of laundry to do this weekend (ugh) and a deadline for my second book looming (help me), but on the bright side, the LEGO Batman movie is out! It's good to be a mom.
And as we ease our way into the weekend, I thought you might appreciate a heaping scoop of NOPE. Like this flavor:

I'm not bitching, really I'm not. My book was published on Tuesday, the early reviews are predominately good, and I'm hard at work on the sequel, which has already been bought and paid for. All my friends are congratulating me wildly and over-exuberantly. Some of them think I'm a huge celebrity now and will be wading through piles of cash once the book really takes off.
The truth is, when my book published on Tuesday, I was at my day job, working. And Tuesday night, I had dinner at Applebees with the kids to celebrate, which was a real treat for us. And nobody recognized me or asked me about my book because, lets face it - I'm not JK Rowling, and even she might not get recognized at Applebees.

Sorry I didn't post yesterday, but I was a bit busy, as I'm sure you can imagine.
Today, my debut YA novel out. I can walk into a bookstore and pluck it from the shelf, and my picture is right there inside the back cover.
My friends and family have been posting pictures with their copies, along with some of my readers from various online outlets, including this blog. I had a moment this morning when I just plain lost it, thinking about all the people who were instrumental in my success. Thank you hardly seems to do it, but I'll say it all the same: Thank you. Each and every one of you.
And now, I'll end with this, because this song has been a bit of a life-anthem for me in this process.
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through. . . .

|Everything is under control.|
Whoo Hooo it's Friday! As always, it's time to get silly. Or maybe that's just because I got about 45 minutes of sleep last night and silly is the order of the day. Either way, it's time to laugh, so lets get to it.
This pizza parlor has had it with their local sign thief:

According to Facebook (and of course, Facebook is the known authority on holidays they can make you a slideshow for), it is National Friends Day.
I have a lot of friends. I always have room for more, but the group I've got are the cream of the crop. These are people who range from people I've known since the fourth grade to friends I've known for years through the internet and never met in person to readers who only know me from a blog or a book but like me anyway.
Every single one of them (and you, if you're reading this) have been instrumental to my success, in whatever way you want to measure it.
