5 Great Movies For Your Hopeless Inner Romantic

I love movies. But I especially love mushy, sappy, occasionally corny, funny, quirky, sexy, steamy love stories. Any or all of those elements are fine. Since Valentine's Day is soon to be striking like a blight upon my cat-driven life upon us, I thought I'd give you a watch list of some of my favorite romances for the holiday:

5. Valentine's Day

Yeah, it's schmaltzy. Even silly. This conglomeration of love stories that end up revealing themselves to be intertwined might make some roll their eyes, but it's got heart and it's got humor, and it's got a bajillion A-list stars in adorable cameos. It's a must.

4. P.S. I Love You

Pretty much anything with Gerard Butler gets a watch from me, but this one....oh the feels. It'll have you roaring with laughter, then sobbing uncontrollably into a couch pillow. The perfect movie about enduring love and taking chances.

3. Somewhere In Time

I'm going old-school on this one. Christopher Reeve in his prime playing opposite Jane Seymour, one of the most beautiful women on the planet. This story of time travel is pure romance. (If that's too dated for you, I'm willing to give an honorable mention to a more time-travel story: The Lake House).

2. The Proposal

I love a quirky love story, about opposites who attract. This one might feel formulaic, but the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds just makes it. I swear to you, I could watch the last three minutes of this movie on an endless loop, and my life would be complete. Special bonus: Betty White!

1. Stardust

It still amazes me how many people don't know about this movie! If you loved Princess Bride, this is the movie for you. Romance, intrigue, magic, swordfights, ghosts and zombies! Plus Michelle Pfeiffer as the queen of all witches and Robert DeNiro as a gay pirate!! This one has everything, and it's such a fun ride. Charlie Cox absolutely stole my heart in this.

Those are my five recommendations for this weekend. What about you? What are your favorite romantic movies?

  1. Have you seen Charlie Cox in Daredevil on Netflix?
