Movie Review: The Book of Life

The Book of Life hasn't had a whole lot of marketing. In fact, unless you saw a preview for it at the movie theater, you may not even know it exists because they're sure not advertising it much of anywhere else.

Luckily for us, I did catch a preview a few weeks back and it looked so amazingly beautiful, I decided we would go if we had the chance.

Friday night, Anna was sleeping over at a buddy's house and David and I were on our own, so off we went.

The movie stars the vocal talents of Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana and Channing Tatum, along with a huge cast of others (including Ice Cube and Placido Domingo!) in a storyline that's not anything much beyond a "B" as far as innovative, refreshing or quirky, but the animation...

Oooooh, the animation!! So vibrant and colorful and visually captivating. I actually had to remember to close my mouth a couple of times, and David was thrilled by all of it.

It had some good belly laughs, some sweet songs (but not such a large amount of them that you could call it a musical) and a strong message about the importance of family and friendship.

David and I both give it an official "thumbs up." See it this week before it fades into obscurity in the Wal-Mart $5 DVD bin. This one is worth paying the extra for and seeing on the big screen.
