This morning, I committed the unpardonable sin of trying to give my daughter a solid colored shirt to wear with her jeans.

Thank goodness I was properly and scathingly reprimanded for my complete and embarrassing lack of fashion sense, otherwise I would probably never learn.

Once Upon A Time

One of the hardest things about parenting my children through and after a divorce is trying to remember why I loved their father once.

Once Upon A Time - Season 1, Episode 17 Recap: Hats Off To The Costume Designer!

We begin by watching Mary Margaret - who runs like a girl - crashing through the forest, having just escaped from the Storybrooke jail.

Cut over to Henry looking at Alice in Wonderland in the story book. He's at the station waiting for Emma, who shows up with Mr. Gold, only to find that Mary Margaret has flown the coop.

Emma is determined to find her before her 8am arraignment tomorrow, otherwise Mary Margaret will be a fugitive, which makes things that much worse. Gold warns her that her job could be on the line for not immediately reporting Mary Margaret's absence, to which Emma replies: "I'd rather lose my job than my friend."

Unfortunately, it's a horrible, misty night with very poor visibility and Emma almost sideswipes a prime piece of mancandy. Helloooo Jefferson!

Oh, Very Well, Then...

I brought home some pretzel nuggets leftover from a meeting yesterday, and David decided they were all his. I told him he had to share, and he promptly arranged them all on a plate in the shape of the letter "D". Then he said "You can make a "D" with them, Mom", thereby asserting his authority over said pretzel nuggets.

You can't fight logic like that.

Separating Siblings From Spectrum

One of my hardest jobs as the mother of special needs kid is separating normal sibling rivalry (and revelry) from autism-related behavior. It's a real challenge not to "hover" over your kid in general, and especially a challenge when your kid has socialization issues. I try to back off as much as possible, but it's tough when he and his sister start butting heads.

Fade Out

It's starting, and I know there isn't too much I can do to stop it. My daughter is growing up, and along with growing up comes the need for space.

Space that I'm not occupying.

I never was a good waitress.

Oh, I could remember any order, no matter how complicated or how many times somebody changed their mind during the deciding of the order. I was unfailingly polite - cheerful even. I knew how to work efficiently, and made sure all my tables were welcomed and attended to. I could line plates up and down my arms and deliver them steaming hot to exactly the right people every single time.

But I can't carry liquid if my life depended on it.

Once Upon A Time - Season 1, Episode 16: True Love Can Eff You Up

Tonight we start in the Enchanted Forest, where Prince Charming and Red Riding Hood are fending off King George's army. Red channels her inner wolf, taking on the army and buying Charming the time he needs to get away and get to Snow White.

Yet another badass female, saving a prince's ass. I love this show.

Moving forward to Storybrooke, Mary Margaret is at the Sheriff's office getting her mug shot taken and protesting her innocence in the killing of Kathryn Nolan. Emma believes her, but she tells MM that arresting her is necessary. She's got to hold to the letter of the law, otherwise Regina could fire her for not doing her job and put someone else in charge who will totally railroad her.

(Snagged from Rufeepeach on Tumblr, who's a lot funnier than me.)

I just have to share this, because it is so entirely made of awesome. This is Zia, she's in fourth grade, and she's about to make her first ski jump. Just a little reminder that courage isn't the absence of fear. It's being afraid and deciding to do it anyway.

My Little Parrots

David has started saying bad words. Specifically, he said "Shut up", which isn't really a bad word, per se. I call that "bad manners". We try not to say "shut up" in our house, and I prefer to hear "be quiet, please." Anna has taken to saying it and now David is saying it and they're both getting in trouble over it.

Glorified Waitress

If you ask my boss what I do for a living, he'll tell you I'm an Executive Administrative Assistant.

If you ask my daughter what I do for a living. She'll say I work on a computer. In an office. A really, really cool office where they serve French Vanilla coffee.

If you ask my son what I do for a living, he will tell you with great glee that I am a waitress. Which is, of course, one of the coolest things you could possibly be. Ever.

Once Upon A Time - Season 1, Episode 15: Who's Afraid Of The Sexy, Hot, Under-Dressed Wolf?

Tonight, we get the backstory of Ruby - a.k.a. "Little Red Riding Hood."

Ruby wants to get out of Storybrooke more than anything, and she's hanging over a booth at Granny's exposing gratuitous amounts of cleavage and mile-long legs as August telling her about all the places he's been, including those with lemurs. Granny shuts that shit right down, controlling Red with an iron fist and telling her to stop flirting and get back to work.

We meet now meet Red Riding Hood back in the Enchanted Forest, and her own personal piece of mancandy, Peter.

Well, helllooooo Peter!

The two are crazy in love and so good looking I just want to watch stuff. Lots of hot, nasty stuff.

Potty Mouth

Tonight, I had one of those stress-filled evenings where my second set of jaws came out and snapped at anyone who dared to annoy me within a six mile radius. I have had it. Never again.

Never again will I sell Girl Scout cookies.

In Real Life

I don't have a huge amount of friends, in real life.

I make the distinction between real life and not real life because the fact of the matter is, I have loads and loads of friends in my not real life. I belong to a few different online communities, some no more than forum boards, others much larger. Similar to Facebook, but only in the good ways like catching up or learning interesting things or sometimes "meeting" (or should I say "reading") someone new due to an association with a friend or a friend of a friend.

Friends who aren't friends, in real life.

Once Upon A Time - Season 1, Episode 14 Recap: Blue, The Condescending, Dream-Crushing Bitch

We open tonight's show with our obviously novice fairy, Nova, who's trying her best to fly straight and impress a very smug, condescending Blue Fairy, who I want to smack in her supercilious face. Is it just me? I hate Blue. I mean, I hate her. Hard. I can barely see to type this for all the hate blazing out of my eyes.

I think it's highly likely that at some point, we'll see an arc that shows us that she's really the mythical "Black Fairy" that Rumple stole the dark and evil wand from (you'll see more about this later, sorry I'm foreshadowing). I think she's secretly evil, and she's way more evil than Rumple. She's got a whole Dolores Umbridge vibe going on. Know what I mean?

Confessions Of A Public Mumbler

When my ex walked out and my budget became a nightmare, one of the first luxuries to go was satellite radio in my car. It was a no-brainer for me, really - the only time I used it was when my daughter and her friends were in the car, and wanted to hear Radio Disney. When I ride in the car alone to and from work, I almost never play music.

That's because I'm too busy having a conversation.

With nobody.
